This post summarizes Jennifer’s positive experience with switching her schedule from a planner to google calendar. She shares that google calendar has more flexibility because she doesn’t need to erase or draw arrows on her planner when something changes. It is also more easily portable as it is accessible on any device and doesn’t require her to carry her planner around. To conclude the post, Jennifer shares a video she created to show the basic features of google calendar.
I have not used google calendar myself prior to being “forced” to with virtual learning this school year. I think it’s a great tool. It has an easy to use interface and I like how it’s simple to invite other people to an event. The appointment slot with google meet conferencing feature has worked great for parent teacher conferences this year. I also think it’s interesting how a person can set up their calendar so when others invite them to an event it shows what time is blocked off. That said, I’m still partial to my planner because I like writing things down and it feels easier to reference past or upcoming dates on paper. I can see myself switching to google calendar slowly.
Hi Grace,
ReplyDeleteWhen our school went to distance learning we lived on the Google Calendar, our admin, staff, and students all had to communicate through this calendar. I will agree that it became very easy to setup, edit, and use for google meets. I really enjoyed the reminders that can be given to notify you about your upcoming meeting/s. All in all I would definately consider using Google Calendar for school and personal life, but like you I really enjoy my paper pencil old school blue lesson plan notebook. I like seeing a week at a time. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Yes, I agree there are lots of great feature like reminders and google calendar has been very helpful with distance learning. I feel like this is one of the things that I could get used to adapting to my personal life but I don't really want to yet.
DeleteHello Grace,
ReplyDeleteI love my Google Calendar! I started to use the calendar like Alicia stated in her comment above, when our admin started assigning our meetings to the Google Calendar. Now, I find myself adding all of my important meetings and appointments on my calendar because I get the alert on my phone. I always start a school year off great with a planner and a calendar but by month two, my planner is under a stack of papers, just a memory of my organization attempts. Thanks for sharing:)

I'm glad to hear you have a lot of buy-in and success with google calendar. That's smart to have it connected to your phone. I've had my phone out this on my desk this year so much more than the past due to distance learning. I can see why it would be helpful to have them connected.
DeleteHello Grace!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am so "old school" because I love my planner! I use Google Calendar as well because my school uses it for everything. However, I love physically writing out my to do lists and visually seeing my calendar in front of me. I enjoy doodling and highlighting and making it personal to me. I think if my school used Google Meet there would be more advantages to Google calendar but we use Zoom! Thanks for sharing!

I'm not a huge doodler, but I have a friend who just loves stickers and doodling in her planner. My roommate even draws her own planner out each month in a notebook. I agree that google calendar is very easily synced with google meets.
